I whip web sites into submission, but I'm nice to everyone else.
Paul Johnston of The Shed Shop wanted to rebrand one of his stores to be called "Backyard Rooms" and asked me for some logo sketches. He wanted to get away from the typical "shed" ideas and convey more of a sense of a backyard private "sacred space" -- as many people use these sheds for art studios, personal work areas, or exercise rooms.
I started with a page full of sketches.
I translated some of the sketches that stood out into digital formats. However, neither Paul or I were especially enthused with any of them.
The box with the roof shape and the "b" inside of it was, in my opinion, pretty ugly, but I played with the concept of putting different "b's" inside the shape of the shed. I found that I could create a more abstract lowercase "b" shape within the outline of a shed.
Paul actually decided not to go with one of these new logos, but I was personally very happy with my final logo concept. The logo is strong and simple and the shape of the "b" is clear. It was a long road to this final concept but well worth the journey.
